K6HHB

First of all a run down of the k6hhb layout: In the center (of the picture) is my Yaesu FT-100 D with FC-20 Tuner underneath and a Yaesu YS-60 and YS-500 SWR & Power meter to its left as you view the picture. Above the FT-100 D are two LDG DTS-4 Antenna switches. This is generally the main HF/VHF station being used.

In the center is my ICOM-735 HF transceiver serving in a backup capacity - Often used to find the next QSO while a current QSO is underway on the FT-100 D. Above the ICOM is a Alinco DC-330MV (32 Amp) Swiitching power supply that can power everything if needed. We have several other PS standing by just in case.

On the right side (bottom to Top) is a LDG Z-11 Pro Tuner, Yaesu FT-817 ND, a Diamond SX-600 and SX-200 SWR & Power Meters. The SX-600 goes with the FT-817 and covers HF & VHF/UHF, and the SX-200 is mated with the ICOM for HF use.

As you will note, all of the equipment is grouped an mounted in a (fabricated) ABS case to make it a self-contained station that can be picked up as a unit go anywhere in a moments notice. WHY - my primary focus is on emergency communications in this way, if required, with a simple disconnect of Antenna(s) and power the station(s) can be placed into a carrying case and away we go.

To support the equipment in the field we have several 30-foot fiberglass push-up poles; portable 144/440 yagis, two (battery operated 4-AA) rotors, assorted HF wire antennas, and finally of course the battery power to make it all work.

Finally, the mobil rig is a Yaesu FT-90 (gee another Yaesu) that can easily be switched between cars, and if needed be supplemented by several HT's that can cover 144/220/440. Per the current ARRL saying "Amatur Radio When Everything Else Fails" - So, as you can see we are ready when the time comes. However, that is not to say that we do not enjoy other facets of ham radio, we do. The first was the Community Support Part - The Second is the fun part where we toss in some DX now and then, an occasional Contest, the annual Field Day, and of course meeting new and exciting people.

Our local Radio Club "MARC" assists local Fire, PD and Red Cross as an ongoing service, and assisted each of them immediately after the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake, we assisted the Red Cross after the Oakland Fire Storm providing communications for two days for their Damage Assesment Teams, and participated in several Wild Fire drills. Locally, we also support a number of other events through out the year. In fact one such event is this weekend, The Calistoga to Santa Cruz Relay (Foot) Race - Generally, some two-hundred 7-person teams run the distance. The race, as always, will come thru our area between midnight (Saturday) and 7:00 am (Sunday morning). Another event coming up on May 26, is an event that one of our members started about 25 years (WA6QFR - Kay Savage - Silent Key) by providing communications for Peninsula Boy Scout Troops during their Annual Flag Placing Ceremony at Golden Gate National Cemetary in San Bruno.
